With the direction the Biden Administration appears to be taking with immigration policy, the hope many had is quickly slipping away.
It appears that those who have been waiting at our border for upwards of two years, are going to be left waiting with no timeline for change anywhere on the horizon.
This does not now, and never will, change the reason people migrate. We aren’t seeing increased numbers of people trying to cross our border because of who is president, we are seeing increased numbers because the situations in their countries have become dire.
No one leaves their home, their families, all they know and love on a whim because of an election in the U.S.. They leave because they have no other choice and need will always be greater than fear.
Now, more than ever, we need to take steps to support families in their home countries and work to put systems and opportunities in place that mitigate the need to migrate.
For those whose lives are not in danger, this is where our Artisan Project comes into play. We are partnering with Artisan Communities and putting systems in place that allow women to care for themselves, their families, and their communities.
This project opens up access to supplies, therapy, business training, and more. We can make a difference. We can be the change that is desperately needed. It is ever more clear that this change begins with us, not within our government entities.
This change begins with us honoring and celebrating our shared humanity, and using the resources we have available to uplift families around the world.
We can do this!
